It was on Ed Walker’s list of “dreams” to open a camp, and that dream came true in 2003 when he and his wife, Sarah, founded Sabine Creek Ranch. He earned a degree in Business from Stephen F. Austin State University, a Master of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Seminary, a Doctor of Education in Leadership from Dallas Baptist University, and is currently working on an Executive Masters in Hospitality and Tourism from the University of Houston. In addition to serving as Executive Director at Sabine Creek, he is a professor in the Camp and Sport Leadership program at Dallas Baptist University. He loves camp, gardening, farm animals and driving his tractor!
Sarah Walker is one of the founders of Sabine Creek Ranch. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Stephen F. Austin and has worked as a math teacher, middle school principal, and on church staff in Children’s Ministry. Sarah and her husband, Eddie, have three children, all of whom have loved growing up doing camp! In her spare time, she loves to read and spend time with her family and friends. Her goal at camp is to work with the rest of the staff to provide a place where people can come away for a while and meet with Jesus.
Doug Connell joined the Sabine Creek team in 2019. A native Texan, from Desoto, Doug has more than a decade of experience in ministry and administrative roles. He and his family have lived in many places around the world: Texas, China, Turkey, and the Pacific Northwest. Doug looks forward to coaching, discipling, and equipping staffers, and is grateful for the opportunity to serve churches, schools, and other groups, here at Sabine Creek Ranch.
Chef & Maint. Director
Jose Arellano joined the Sabine Creek team in 2005. Originally hired to build a kitchen, he volunteered to prepare dinner for a group staying at the Ranch after they evacuated New Orleans from Hurricane Katrina. That meal revealed his great talents as a chef! He now wears many hats at the camp, and is an integral part of the team! He and his wife, Irma, have three adult children and reside in Royse City.
Karen didn’t grow up in Texas, but, as the saying goes, she got here as fast as she could. She met her husband, Tom, in a church singles group and they have two grown sons. Karen came to Sabine Creek in 2016 and feels completely blessed to work with an incredible staff in an environment in which the goal is to share the love of Christ with everyone who visits. In her spare time, she loves to knit, work on home projects, and travel.
Aaron Rogers joined the Sabine Creek team in 2018. He grew up going to camp, attending his first one as a 3 week old in his mother’s arms, and coming to know Jesus at a summer camp when he was 17. After graduation from Dallas Baptist University in 2015 with a degree in Camp/Sport Leadership, Aaron spent several years in Europe where he played semi-pro basketball and served as a missionary using the world of sports and camps to share the Gospel. His favorite thing about working at Sabine Creek is seeing people come in with an expectation only to leave different and ready to spread their newfound life everywhere they go.
Day Camp Director
Rebekah Hawkins joined the Sabine Creek staff in 2019 and is thrilled to be a part of the team here at Sabine Creek Ranch. Rebekah earned her undergraduate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University in 2010. After graduation, she taught upper elementary school for nine years. Rebekah is excited to transfer her “teacher skills” over to “day camp skills.” Rebekah’s husband, Jarrid, is a local student minister. They have two children, Hannah and Haddon. In her spare time, Rebekah loves to bake, read, and make schedules.
